well soon were having the mile run at school and im how you say "over weight" so we gotta run 4 laps to equal a mile but i did it today and i found out i couldnt run half a LAP without having to stop to breath and i have to wait like 3 minutes to catch my breath which cuts out of my time and i get a time of like 14 minutes. i tried the in nose out mouth method but it makes my nose burn really bad. any other methods?

run run and run some more..keep challenging yourself...when you get freetime, run...run a little faster every day, and eventually that one mile won't be ****.

The best way to overcome this is to practice more. So running, biking, or any cardiovascular exercise will help you run out of breath less and get your good mile time! I know the gym teachers always say to breath in mouth/out nose or whatever, but my dad always says to get as much air as possible, so whichever breathing technique works best for you I guess.

And the best way to do more cardiovascular activities is with a friend, or a good old music player. You will feel so much better when you run the mile!

I sort of have the same problem, being slightly "overweight" if you will. I find it easier if you:

1. Try to get into the habit of running 1 mile everyday whether it is inside or outside of school. Try to enjoy it as well.

2. Try running with your friend. If you are keeping pace with your friend and talking, time goes by MUCH faster

3. Consider JOGGING and not running. If you jog at a slow and steady pace, you will not have to stop! You will feel accomplished and then as you get into better shape, you find that running that 1 mile is no problem!

Well I'm 12...5 ft. exactly....and weight about 100 or higher

I have to run for the mile at school TOMORROW...and im pretty nervous...When i found this out i ran a mile on my tredmil and it said i got 13.23...which i thought was really high, becuase last year i got 9.57....idk if the times were different...idk, so yah im confused about that...BUT for you, i'd run a mile ATLEAST once a week...and challenge yourself to get a better time...and pace your self really well...also if you have a hard time breathing make a beat while breathing...rember not to compare yourself to your friends or other people, because it all revolves around you and the info about your self

Hope this help a little bit

WHISH ME LUCK FOR TOMORROW:) lol

i used to be in the same position as you, i weighed 230 pounds and i couldnt run a mile without stoping. it will take you some time, but if you work at it like i did you will succeed. just keep pushing yourself. when i went into marine corps recruit training i weighed 180 and three months later i came out weighing 155 and running three miles in 17:43, its all in your mind, good luck!!

If you think you have more stamina then speed you should do the first lap fast then the next 2 laps take it slow but still jog at a decent pace then sprint the last lap If you're more of a sprinter do the first 2 laps at your medium pace then slowly make your run faster untill you you get into a sprint on your last lap

run daily and get yourself into running shape ( you know what i mean right?) before you have to run it for school that will make it much easier for you
