The best motivation for me is to stand in front of my full length mirror completely naked. If that doesn't make me wanna exercise, there is no hope! LOL Seriously though, I can look at the parts of me that I am soooo proud of making better. I also get a harsh reminder of the areas that still need more work. Running mainly improves my spirit. It is so cleansing to get out there and detox all the stress and worry of my day. I just channel everything that is on my mind into one burst of energy and run it off! After finishing my run, I feel like a gladiator that just won their battle. I also take pride in my self discipline. Character is based on how we do the right things even when it isn't easy. I think running and taking care of your body is a physical sign of how we value ourselves. I am definitely a character! =)

Hi,

I'm not a runner, but I do jog once in awhile. I go to the gym every other day, to stay fit. I want a healthy body as well as a healthy mind, and the gym, and workouts cause that in part.

Beyond that I have a trainer to guide any process or progress, or nag me if I'm slacking, smiles. I also eat properly, and I'm generally motivated anyway. I have goals that I'd like to achieve through College; family that I care about; and want to remain a positive person.

My workouts are also a way to process things/issues and vent them successfully in a way that also benefits me more than just getting rid of negativity.

When not at the gym working out routines, I was in Dance for 10 years, and now working on getting to the next level from 3rd degree Black Belt in Karate. I just think an active life helps me.

Do I have and enjoy another life? Sure, and hope to for a long time.

Good question.

I'd eat a big KFC meal or 3 slices of Thick cheesy Pizza, McD's Double Cheeseburger EVM (or something along that line) and feel really guilty and then kick myself up and out on the track to run.

painful, but it works EVERY TIME.

I will drag myself out of the house with my mp3 playing Jesus Christ Superstar, which has a slow build up rising to a high crescendo. This is where the opera helps to get me out of the rut into a running mode.

Has this contest ended? Anyway, i would like to share my views. :)

If anybody wants to run, being lazy and tired are just some excuses to avoid doing it. It is ALL IN THE MIND! If you want to do it, do it!

Since part of your mind wants to run, why not just take a short period of time and complete the run. You'll get a sense of achievement and glad you did so. It is also part of training one's mind.

For me I would start off slowly and achieve small goals. For instance if I have never run before, I would probably go for a 5 minute jog. Once I have achieved that the next time (a few days later or ever 1 week later) I would add 5 minutes. Then after I have achieved that I would add another 5 minutes etc etc.

The point is to set small achievable goals, and before you know it you would be doing 30 minute jogs every week without batting an eyelid :-)

The motivation factor kicks in when you know you can achieve those goals and it feels good to do so. Even if you feel lazy or tired, just put those running shoes on and go outside then there is no turning back as soon as you have locked the gate. Since you have put on the running shoes you might as well do your run.

The trick is to go through the motion and a different mindset will kick in. You force the body to lead the lazy or tired mind, then once you start running you mind can't help but to adjust to the new environment.

By the way the oxygen you gain from the run should wake your lazy or tired mind up and you will feel energetic afterwards and feel glad that you did your run.

If you are not geared to running, it's best you don't regiter for this type of run. Just jog in your neighbourhood park. I was away, came back but the registration was closed. So sad,

So far, this year, I have ran in Anlene Orchard Mile, Shape Run, RunNUS and have registered for GE 10km & Std Chartered Marathon. So what motivated me to run? Definitely not the prizes because I know I won't win, not the goodie bag because even if you don't run, you still get then goodie bag! To challenge myself would be quite a lame answer but I can't find better one.

When I'm tired or don't feel like training, I won't force myself to do on that day, no point, you just get more lousy, lost concentration and may even get injury. I unsually plan my training days, so that I can return home early, plan to eat something light first. I also do some mental preparation for the training - tell myself "it's going to be fun...".

Good if you can get some "kaki" to come with you so that you can motivate each other. But I prefer to train alone because I'm afraid my speed will slow down the others and my friends will feel bored with me.

I feeel mental preparation is impt, but no point if you don't take action. Once you step out of of this " should I?" or "should I not?" then everything shd be ok liao. Believe me, once you get your feet running, you won't feel like stopping. If my lazy, " lots of excuses" hubby can now go running, why not the rest of us?

Good luck to all participants.

One of my hobbies is running and during my University life right now, I like running through whole of my university. I have had bad habit of lazy and tired of running once before; however, you should always say to yourself, " Go, go, go and keep the spirit up!" In addition, if I am tired of working or studying, then I need to take a nap first for about 30 minutes. After you take the nap for 30 minutes, I'm sure that you will have more stamina to start your running activity. Another solution is sometimes, you should change the environment of your running place. I believe it would be helping you alot for it. Once you change the environment, there is another power and stamina that will motivate you well. In addition, you need a friend who is having the same hobby like you, running. A friend will motivate you during the process of running. Believe it! I still keep this habit and for my experience until right now, I almost running every day. :)

Hi,

Firstly, you have to know what kind of person you are when comes to sports – is it task oriented or ego oriented. Through this, you would be able to identify the purpose of participate in this run.

Before participate, there must be some kind of force that pushing you to join this run. And that force could be the motivation or goals. A few days before the actual run, you should have thought of the motivations that would push you when you feel like giving up during the process. Preparation is very important. There 2 kind of motivation- extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic could be monetary term (winning the prize money) and having the limited shirt from NIKE.

Intrinsic motivation could be having a sense of satisfaction after completing the run, making new friends during the run, complete something beyond your limits (personal record), be part of the successful runners who complete the run, treating yourself a sumptuous meal after the run, telling myself completing this race would make me feel fitter and healthier.

Telling myself I can’t back out from this run, after running 6km how can I give up just like that. I just have to endure another 4km!!!!!!!! I have complete 6km; another 4km is not a problem. Everyone else can do it, I can do it too!! Telling myself, if I stop running, my girlfriend/boyfriend will run away from me / one of my family members will die.

It is best if you have companion to run with you. Encouragement and motivation would be much more effective. If possible, bring MP3 along; listen to music while running is quite an enjoyment.

You might ask why do I have so many motivation- My answer is – It’s a 10km run, I would need more than 10 motivations to keep me strong enough to complete the run.

FEEL LAZY OR TIRED? Require lot of mental strength and determination.

Think positively and do not think about how much distance is left to cover.

Overall, I have to say that different people have different desires and thus different motivation is require and to have to find it out on your own.

If you prefer to run alone, ask yourself what would it take, on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being a "blah" experience and 10 being an "out of this world experience" to make every every running experience a 9 or a 10. It could be running with an mp3 player, running with a top of the line running shoe, running with the best dry-fit running gear, running with an expensive sun glass (unless you're running at night of course). Then do whatever it takes to up your running experience. That way, you can motivate yourself. And if all else fails, do what I do... whenever I just don't feel like getting out of bed, I tell myself that putting on my shoes is half the battle won. Just put on your shoes and you'll find that somehow, you'll get out the front door and the rest is relatively easy.

In the first place you should not feel lazy or tired.

Look for e purpose in it. Then you shouldnt be even feeling lazy or tired.

I realize something about purpose. I was never ever good in studies. I was illerate. Sad but true i wish i was educated.

Looking back l realize why. because there wasnt a purpose. its impossible task to even open the books. My workbook was blank except my name written on it. that was dumb!(Pondering back into my teens)

There is nothing done for no purpose, you can always find out the purpose behind something being done. The purpose does not always have to be rational but there is always a purpose, if so only entertainment.

So purpose = motivation. if you got notion about feeling lazy and tired. you already lost half battle. no matter how hard im going to motivate you.

I found my purpose in life. which acts as a motivating source.

Not just run.

but a long run ahead in life.

If i won i can date vicky? Thats was the motivation i wrote in =x

iReporters own the RNC

Going into the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, a lot of things were up in the air as Hurricane Isaac bared down on the Gulf Coast and the first day of the convention was canceled. But then we met the three iReporters who won CNN's contest to attend the RNC Alex Anderson, Elizabeth Lauten and Matt Sky and we knew this funny, talented group could handle whatever came our way.

Tuesday was all about taking in the excitement. We watched the speeches by Ann Romney and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie from the CNN Grill, where CNN had built a restaurant and TV set to host politicians and tastemakers during the convention. We settled in while actors Stephen Baldwin and Evan Handler, politicians Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, and journalists Tom Brokaw and David Gregory, to name a few, milled about, and CNN's Piers Morgan took a moment out of his dinner to meet the contest winners.

There is only one best way to motivate yourself and finish a marathon even when you feel lazy or tired. At first, I will just run along with all the rest of the runners. Then I will find someone who's running ahead of me and keep pace with him or try to overtake him.Once I overtake him, I will look for the next runner who is slightly ahead of me and repeat the same thing again. This way, I'll be spur on and self-motivated to complete the marathon.

First make it as pleasant as you can, run with like-minded friends or a buddy who are/is accountable to you as you are to them. If you prefer to run alone, ask yourself what would it take, on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being a "blah" experience and 10 being an "out of this world experience" to make every every running experience a 9 or a 10. Every day is a battle within to push myself to run. How I push myself to run is to tell myself every time that I just have to get started, after the first 5 min, the lethargy is all gone. I could listen to music or go where there are lots of other people are running, and get into the mood.

My health is my first motivating reason to run (most of my older relatives all suffer from all kinds of hypokinetic diseases) so my own kids can have a strong healthy mommy, second reason that keeps me going is to stop from putting on weight so I can feel good about myself and maintain a reasonable weight. My last reason is so that I can have more energy to do other activities with my friends like sports and going on holidays and enjoying sights on foot.

I say Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Don't waste a moment of it by procrastinating. NO REGRETS! Cheers!

Hi. I have run since 2005.Really I don't have any excuses to not run accept if I am going on an airplane for a trip or have an injury or have the flu. Otherwise I'll go every time.Even when it rains. My motivation is my music. That just keeps me going. Also people too. I have met random people that tell me or told me i am an inspiration. just nice comments. That keeps me going.

This is very timely because it coincides with the olympics, the people representing their country are only there because they got into their sport and enjoyed it (or in some cases they are inhuman :) ). So if you want to receive the best benefits find a sport or form of exercise which you can enjoy. Or if this is not an option, continue going to the gym but seek the help of a personal trainer in order to extend your gym life, reduce boredom and to increase chances of losing "poundage".

There is no need for any reason. I am running for my life. I run for the love of running. The endorphins at the end of it. Nothing beats the feeling.

I see a lot of fat people out there with fancy hairdos and clothings hiding nothing but gross fat from high living and when they feel guilty all they do is dish out big bucks at classy gyms to smooth out the fats, at least for a while. Then, it's back to being good ole' fatty again.

As Bruce Lee said 'when you're past thirty, bulging biceps and pleasing pectorals may boost your ego, but your life and health depend on how fit your heart and lungs are.'

Buy a pair of shoes that makes you feel you can fly - Wear it.

Brush mental protests aside and run.

When your muscles warm up and your adrenaline starts to pump, you would have forgotten about your initial protests.

By the time you finish your run with sweat streaming down a satisfied face, and as you treat yourself to a well deserved cool drink, you'll be wondering why you were reluctant in the first place.

The next time you want to run and feel tired, lazy or unmotivated again...

REMEMBER YOUR LAST RUN!

If you are working and feeling lazy of tired but still want to, it would be preferable to go straight to the gym or any place that you want to exercise.

I used to tell myself that I will go home first, take a shower, changed and then proceed with my exercises. But I found that it doesn't work because by the time I'm work and in a relaxed environment, I just feel lazy and don't want to step out of my cosy environment.

I then decided to change my schedule in that I would head for my exercise after work although I already feel tired after a hard day in the office. I started by warming up to 'boost' up my mind and proceeded with the exercises. After finishing, I would take a shower, have a cold or hot drink before heading home.

When I reached home, my mind is fresh and spend time with my family.

I find that the above really works and some of my colleagues even joined me after work instead of heading home first.

You may wish to try out my method and I'm sure that it will work out for you. Cheers.

I had lack of motivation to exercise for the past 2 years. My standard of fitness degraded till I failed my IPPT (Individual Physical Proficiency Test) & I had to attend RT (Remedial Training)

I really dreaded attending RT & my muscles hurt badly after my 1st training session. Because of my long break from my training regime. After one & a half months of training, my fitness seems to improve & I managed to pass my IPPT with incentives awarded.

My source of commitment : You will have to start somewhere. If you don't keep yourself fit, the government will keep you fit.

My source of motivation : Early knock off from work & my boss can do nothing about it, spending some time away from my naggy wife. Enjoy the exercises & prove that I am not that unfit.

My goal : I look good & feel good now. I want to keep it this way & I will not want to attend RT again.

mind over body dear friend...

2 extra steps are all u need.

Keep 2 sets of sports attire, keep your shoes & socks where u see them when u come home. the benefits of walking/ jogging have already been mentioned by another person. is it worth it? u bet !

It helps if u have a DVD Recoder to record your favourite serial/show so u wont have an excuse. Its your life & health on the line, take responsibility. be a motivater for someone else after you have started, pay it forward, before you know it u will feel so good, u dont need so much sleep, u get sick less often, u dont feel tired so easily, u look radiant!, etc, etc... what are you waiting for.. :)

1. Do not plan your running after work/study/dinner/breakfast

2. Get a short term realistic goal eg. minus 1kg within 2 weeks

instead of 1 month or a year wanting to minus 10kg.

3. Make a note for your improvement. eg write in a sticking paper

and paste in your diary or organiser.

4. Reward yourself if you hit the goal of yours. eg. earthquake

@ swenson

5. Feel lazy or tired, see your idol poster paste at the wall ;)

You have to enjoy running to fulfill the full benefits from it. Easlier said then done, but one you get the hung of it and you will get additied to running and might feel uncomfortable if you miss your regular runs. Once at that stage, no motivation or pushing is required and you will be most willing to go for regular runs.

Tell yourself for the first few times, to enjoy runnings to enjoy the full benefits from it... after which, it will be easy and becomes a part of your daily/weekly activities

The most educated guests are:

1. Total Comfort: you can run and feel the same feeling as you are sleeping in comfort bed

2. Total Protection: trust your gear, it might safe you from hazard of nature

3. Total Durability: it may prolong your trust

4. Total Technology: it support all above results

You may see this in new US Army combat uniform and supporting gears.

These may motivate your mood other than max physical endurance and strong mind.

Basically, I will just get up and put on my running singlet or Tee. Once I'm in them, I will be motivated to go through the whole sequence of the workout, be it running or going to the gym.

And if I am in the middle of a long distance running event and I get tired, I will motivate myself by telling myself that I can do it, or by making the other runners my competitor and try to overtake them. Most of the time I will do the latter.

You must have a passion first in run, run is fun, is energetic and healthy purpose. Secondly you can invite the friends whom like run or already a regular runner to jog together. You can build your interest via participate the race events.

After all, the most important is run for fun, you will feel better every time after your sweat out.

I would start my day off fresh. wake up, brush my teeth, take a shower and while showering listen to the radio or some of my favorite songs. Id eat something small like a bagel or breakfast bar. And drink something to give me that energy boost weather its a cold glass of oj or coffie- i perfer iced coffie...lol.id stretch then Id grab myself a water bottle and my head phones and go running. Music is my best motivation.

long term goal

before run set a personal goal , and no matter u walk or run, u aim to complete this distance by this time etc.

during running look back to this goal u set

short term goal

during running, look for an object few metres away. the distance between you and the object is subject to runners.

aim to reach that object.

after reaching, aim for another object after that and carry on doing the same process.

short term goals can be use as an extension to help u reach ur long term goal.

also, runners should look to their objective in running if they have. that will be a great mover to push you to run.

up next can be the mental strength within. the desire to push pass others and break own record! haha

I've been thinking about this same thing myself, and its funny that you ask.

I've come up with a solution but I haven't put it into the works yet.

Finding someone who wants to exercise also can motivate you to run, mostly because there also relying on you to run with them, therefore your somewhat obligated.

You might enjoy there company also.

i've been running 10.8km in the morning and 6km in the evening...for about a month...part of my training for Nike+ Run...i gotta admit running twice in a day is a chore...

i would say LOVE is the reason behind the motivation i have each day no matter how tired or lazy i am...

cause i want to accompany her to work and after her work...being a student the cost of all the bus trips have been draining me out...i've calculated...each mth i would spend $120 on my ezlink card...thus in order to reduce on the amount spent...i've planned running routes from our place to her workplace...instead of cutting down on accompanying her to work...

this way i can save up, train for my run and at the same time pamper her...

Fool yourself by pretending you are about to do something else. Don't think about running when you are about to start. Just say to yourself, "Hmm... I shall brisk walk from here to there."

Once you got yourself almost to the end, try a slow jog with the same process above. Before you know it, you will be running and your mind won't even realize it.

When the above directions fail you miserably, get a stray dog and start pulling it's tail. That will give you a hell lots of motivation plus determination for running.

When you feel lazy or tired, my suggestion is to go to swimming. Because when you put your whole body into water, you will have a very comfortable relaxation. Meanwhile, you can have a swimming, it can make you body remove off the tiredness. Just like a spa. Take a try.

If I tell you there is a fit multi-millionaire which perfectly suit your requirement waiting for you everyday at the jogging track for you to catch him and he will give you what ever you want when you catch up with him, definitely your laziness and tiredness will be gone.

What I am trying to say is, if your dream to keep healthily fit is bigger than anything, the obstacles will become very small.

This is my main problem now, and I don't know what to do, whenever I reach home my running spirit just faded away, and I don't know why. I used to run alone either in the morning or in the evening. But now you see, I feel sick already, I've been enjoying running since I was 16 and now I'm already 36, just tell me what to do? (sigh).

Normally, I do my running training with some other friends.

Trust me, it motivates you a lot. Especially when you are competitive. Also, you could also try to time yourself while running over a distance. Even if you fail, you could repeat the process. It would help you improve a lot.

I was previously lazy, fat and always putting off exercising ... theres always another day for exercise. All that changes when i went for a medical checkup and the results was shocking... My health was in dire situation and if i dun do something about it, i'm going to get a heart attack. From that day onwards, just thinking about the possibility of getting a heart attack motivates me to run.

P.S. My father has multiple heart attacks before and it is not a easy experience. Imagine that happening to me....

I crawl out of bed, brush my teeth, slip into my shorts, vest and battered Nikes, wander downstairs and creak into a stretch or two.

I walk past five or six cars, and then shuffle to a jog.

Once my body realises that it is being forced to work my stride lengthens, my back straightens, and my blood starts to pump. Within ten minutes I remember why I love running, my body feels alive, I feel awake and aware, in control and ready to start another day.

Get a running buddy who stay at least 5km away from you. Make a pact, if any of us back-out, we will have to treat each other a buffet. Bring your mobile phone that'sequip with a radio and a camera.

You can run and take a snapshot of the scenery along the road at the same time. When you look at these photos again, you will find that it is worth running afterall. Getting close to the nature and stay healthy at the same time.

Why force yourself to run when you are feeling lazy or tired. Is not life hard and stressful enough. U wont enjoy the beauty of running by forcing yourself. Dont run just because you want to lose weight too.

Running with the mindset to observe the beauty and creation around you and always tell yourself that want to run mainly is for enjoyment and relaxation. I think you will be more motivated and enjoy it better. It works for me. Don't be surprise the sport will stay with you for life.

Remember before forcing yourself to run when tired or lazy, you need to have the correct mindset. "Why you want to run"??

When you want to run for your life or in a life-and-death situation.

When you know that maybe that is your last chance.

When you do not want to disappoint your loved ones.

For me, i motivate myself by telling that if i will be lazy to run i will lose the benefits i will get from running. And from there my mind will start telling me all the possibilities that i will get if i dont. And i will end up putting on my running shoes and ask my friend with same sked to care for a run early? yes thats it!

MENTALLY:

Do a sick amount of abdominal exercises.

Now that you've got your abs muscles jacked up, all you need to do is to melt off the veil of fats hiding your highly defined, chiseled abs of steel.

PHYSICALLY:

1-wake up in the morning

*2-rehydrate 500ml (critical)

3-dispose off yesterday's digested meals

*4-rehydrate 500ml again (critical)

5-put on sunblock

**6-put on a pair of Nike+ running shoes with your mp3 player (try a foot scan analysis, to ensure you get your foot specific pair) (critical)

***7-pop a caffeine tab 200mg (optional/*check with your doctor first*)

8-start a slow jog listening to The Distance by Cake

Know what drew you to your sport in the first place. Your ‘first love’ always motivates.

The channelling of negativity can also help. Negative thoughts, if channelled/ converted properly, into physical movement, can be powerful.

The little things count too (such as the scenery of a pleasant training environment, or the feel of comfortable gear.)

Keeping a workout journal (and reflecting upon your own progress) can also be inspirational.

Genuine fatigue:

If your body is genuinely fatigued, like, if your body really has not recovered from a previous session, I would personally either – go for a light session (today) – or, if your body is really totally depleted, sit this one out and train another day.

Why? If you overdo it today – and if you take too long to recover - today’s efforts and instant gratification would, well, be not so gratifying later on.

whenever i plan to go run on that particular day, i would told myself that it's for keeping fit and healthy and i would feel fresh after that. If i didn't go, the rest of the day i would feel uneasy and regret for not running. i would look at a picture of a sportman with nice figure and muscles comparing with a fat guy who cant even walk properly. These would motivate me to go for the run as we do not want to be the fat man. after the run i would rest for 1hour before treating myself to a nice meal. at least i have burn all my excess calories and i can eat with ease.

Running long distant need a good mental mind. Set and achieve a short term goal to maintain a healthy mental mind. Set a long term goal to stretch yourself to the limit.

Motivation:

One trick is to read stories about great runners, how they suffered and ultimately how they became champions. This is self motivation by reading others.

Another trick is to find reasons why you need to run in the first place, is it because of the awards or ... find the answer within yourself. Grab it and inspire yourself.

Good luck to all !!!!

Think like this - whenever you can, better to go for that run, swim or exercise, since (in Singapore context) the next time you wanna do, it maybe raining or you maybe injured or recovering. Then add on the back of your mind, all fat stores you have waiting to burn off in that great 10km run or 1500m swim or 40km cycle. Lastly throw away that computer game.

I don't think; I just run. Once i give myself time to think and try to motivate myself, I end up coming with pretty good excuses to get myself out of it, so I just run before the lazy me gets to say a word... :)

Sign up racing events and set yourself a goal. Challenge yourself to do better each time. After all, you live only once. Not doing it is not an option.

Running is a mental game. You must have a clear goal in running. Where is the destination, turning point and timing? Start with a short distance if you just begin to run and don't stress yourself too much with too much distance to cover.

Obviously the mood to run depends on what kind of day you have. But when you just ignore everything that had happens during the day and put on your running gear. I guaranteee that you will have a new perspective on what had happen or what kind of important decision you have to make in your workplace or school.

All it takes are your legs to take the road. Your mind you can leave at home.(just joking)

It is absolutely fantastic to give yourself a 20 Min's exercise everyday. Be it skipping, jumping, sketching your body muscles, twisting & etc... do these at home early in the morning and you will find yourself energetic the whole day.

it has to depend on your motive on running really. because your motive can push your senses to the highest limit even to a state of nirvana think of very deep things when u are running, something which u loved alot. love replaces your senses....

some things which can help , thinking of such things.

lost of your loved ones,

your happiest time,

the day you can never forget,

something u regret for the rest of your life,

the coordination has to be done progressively, combining your thinking abilities while your energy is draining is a lot of training.good luck!

When I feel lazy and tired to myself then I think about my heart and says to myself that when my heart works 24 x 7 hours continuously and he never tired then how can I ?

And second thing is, I believe that if you spend your body energy in useful work then how much you spend your body energy, your body reflect twice time energy to you for doing more. Because there is the mental satisfaction.

I start with planning what I need and want to do but I don't take it too seriously. I take things as they come as well. This is just something to get sure of myself so that I won't grow doubtful with the things I do.

I also build up a desire to want to get out of the house. I call it the "I want to break free" syndrome. I'll watch some motivational sporting events over the years. (e.g. When Liverpool beat AC Milan on penalties to win the UEFA CL...LoL)

Once I'm "motivated" enough, I'll straight away dress up in my sports attire (a simple T-shirt, shorts, sports shoes and I-Pod), then out I go motivated and without any doubt in my mind.

Running is a mind game. There are different carrots at the finishing line. My ultimate carrot is the happiness and satisfaction shown on my husband's face. He loves to exercise and believes in exercising to keep fit and look good. He is my motivational factor and it is love that pushes me further. I simply love the beaming face of his during and after the jog. It makes me happy and forgets all the pain. Love is in the air after a good jog. Besides, after our jogging, my husband always treats me to a sumptuous meal. Hence, it is double carrot that I am chasing after. *:D

2008-08-17 13:36:24 UTC
Don't force yourself to run if you are tired. That's the body's way of telling you that you need rest. Ultimately only you can know if you're tired or just plain lazy.

If I'm lazy to run, I'll just tell myself that if I don't run, then I'll regret it when the weekend is over. That's because running gives us an endorphin boost that helps to regulate our moods. I just know I'll go back to work grumpy and miserable if I don't run.

I also swim, cycle, and practice taekwondo and western boxing but only running seems to give me the relaxation I need.

Another way is to imagine yourself flabby, wrinkly and depressed. If that doesn't scare yourself into running I don't know what will.
2008-08-20 20:16:15 UTC
I have asthma and When I don't run for a while I feel my lungs tightening like I can't breathe. I'm pretty much motivated by my chronic disease haha

it's just a mind set, once you have conditioned your mind then your body will just follow. always think positive , weigh the benefits you can get once you continue your physical activities, remember nowadays the applicability of the adage" an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure" it's also being practical in life. so what are doing? just do it!

I HATE running. It is boring, tiring and not as fulfilling as other sports such as soccer or basketball. But somehow, I do more running than any other sports...

Apart from all the mental psyching about (1) needing to lose weight, (2) wanting to look good, (3) exercising is good for the body etc etc, I make it more conducive to run. This is how I got myself to run:

1. Morning Runs - I realised that, personally, by the end of the day, the inertia to overcome becomes greater with the many excuses such as, "I am tired after a day's work" or "I still have work to do". Hence, I reduce all these "inertia" by waking up earlier and going for a run. I hate to admit it but it does get me more energised for the day ahead :p

2. Be Realistic - I hate running. I have to wake up earlier to get really tired and sweaty. And do I want to kill myself doing it? Set realistic goals for the runs. It could be in the form of timing or distance. Take it progressively and it could spur you on to run more/ faster as success builds on success. The combo of hitting targets (running faster and further) and visible weight loss (from the weighing scales and freifnds/ colleagues) is by itself a great motivator.

3. Be Patient - related to being realistic, patience is required. Do not expect results overnight. It could take up to two weeks (running three times per week) to see some weight loss. It is easy to think that the runs were useless during this period. But they are not! Be patient - Press on! Also, eat humble pie and start off with short distaces to get the body comfortable with running.

This was how I got myself to run. I did not run more than 10 times in the whole of 2007 but now, I have to run (it could be any distance...just need to go out and get some fresh air) at least twice a week or I would feel "funny". But I still hate running :p Hope this helps :)

I just think of the very reason why I run and for whom am I running for. That will be my driving force to run. For example, I would tell my self that I run to be fit, and be physically stronger for my loved ones-- that I may share a longer life with them.

I think self motivation does the trick. Practice visualising finishing the race or distance and focus on the part of the muscle group that dragged you back. Be it thigh, biceps or core muscle. Listen to some inspirational adrenalin-feeling music to focus your mind and feel positive. Be surrounded by posters of successful athletes, magazines or books. Try it, it works for me when a race is near.

Well... try to think about something good, something you like, rather than thinking about how many kilometres left or about tired. Try to keep your mind thinking about something else instead of focusing on the run. this is useful for me when i run long run, but not short run.

Put on your favourite running shoes and best looking running outfit, my choice is Nike off course. Tell yourself, if people can do it, so can you. Look at yourself, you look so nice in your running shoes and outfit, few more km to go........ don't give up. Monitor every km you have run, when you have completed 5km, another 5km to go, when have completed 8km, 2km to go. You can make it but don't give up yourself. I am looking forward for the upcoming Nike Human Race.
2008-08-15 22:01:44 UTC
you shouldn't run if you feel tired because requires energy. you can listen to some nice work-out songs with nice upbeat and fast rhythm that really makes u active and keeps u going on your mp3 player, do some interesting and cool warm-ups before you run and run at the beach where you can feel the cool breeze on your face , enjoy the sea breeze and looking at the beautiful scenery after running...The beach is a great place to get fit and then u can bask in the sun and and have a nice swim as well...after all the weather is really hot...

i think in order to motivate ourselves to run, we need to choose an appropriate and right place, that is one important factor, another perfect spot is the mount faber, the view is mesmerizing especially if you're nature-lover. A lush area with so many nice trees at the side, plus it is very spacious and peaceful. in addition, u can enjoy a nice view of everthing at the faber point and not forgetting the fresh air....

umm one way is to look into the mirror and convince yourself that you really look unfit and if you get fitter, not only will your health improve, but you'll look hot.

2nd, think about the future, you'll get health problems and everything if you dont exercise or run or whatever it is. think about how you're family will suffer if you're ill.

3rd, get a friend to force you to promise him or her to go running with him or her. obligations help.

4th, promise your god or best friend or lover or someone, if you love that person alot, you'll surely be motivated

I used to weigh a hefty 79kg (suffered from high blood pressure due to my weight) 2 yrs ago but now, thanks to running, i'm 63kg (and my HBP is gone)! You must know what you want to be fit for and the benefits to run and be fit. e.g. looking more attractive to opposite sex, more self confidence and less medical problems.

Write down a list of advantages of running and disadvantages if you don't run and paste it somewhere prominent (I would suggest the fridge if you like to snack alot). It works for me and I think it'll work for you!

When I'm able to, I usually take my ipod with me while I run. I also try to run with friends, like people on my cross country team so I know I'm not the only one who's working hard and feeling tired. It's also great motivation.

If I don't feel like running I'll tell myself I won't ever do that great in a cross country meet and that I won't be able to beat anybody. I tell myself that 9 out of 10 times after a run, I feel really good the rest of the day. I also know that this keeps me healthy and keeps my legs toned :)

Good luck!

Thinking about how much I will be drifting away from my goal if I skip the session, will get me going.

Also, thinking about how much further my competitors will be if I skip the session.

If you are real tired, then don,t run.Go for a walk or sightseeing joggers or runners around. Amongst them, many are old, some are weak or struggling to regain their heath, some look young or really young.I learnt a lesson from them. Many have lost their health because they didn,t start running or exercising. I took running because of catching cold or cough easy. Running strengthened my lungs and body. So why become lazy to run. Go for it before it,s too late.

Motivate myself by

-having the goal in my mind and work and go after it yeah!!

For example, complete the race in 50 minutes.

-find a challenging competitor or a partner to run with so that I am motivated

For example, find a gorgeous girl who run fast so that i am more motivated to chase the girl and at the same time finish the race!! :P

-keep running even though it is at a slow pace as the main goal is to complete the race!!:D

-treat the race as a fun things where you run with lots of people, the atmosphere should be different and more vibrant!!

That's it!!!That's the way i motivate myself.

2008-08-17 09:08:36 UTC
I set a goal for myself, wanting to be strong and stay fit. Everytime i will feel reluctant when i was going for a run because i know training is tough, but i always tell myself it's a transition period. So I could mentally prepare myself and push myself further everytime. GOAL is the medicine to laziness and tired. And of'cos do it with passion. :)

This makes you regain your energy and you will run more than you have expected. All this methods that I have mentioned are methods that I have tried. It works. Try them. Hope these helps.

Get a running parter and kick each others butts about running. Try to find someone who will stick to this and drag you off the couch even when you don't want to go. Make commitment and set aside time for running. Make it routine. Set up a reward system. If you run a few miles you can buy that shirt or pair of shoes you want. Just try around and find something that works.

I think of my dream fit body and figure and the advantages of having it such as to be able to wear nicer clothes.I tell myself that I will never be able to achieve my dream figure and everything will just be a illusion if I don't get up and run now. It really works if I think of those who call me fat, how I should prove to them that they are so wrong and stop letting them be happy that they have a greater figure than me. Better still to play a mental movie of how that person call me fat, his or her proud expression, that stuck up face and how inferior I felt. All these reasons are definitely going to make me get up immediately and run no matter what.

I can't be bothered nowadays. I have not done the 2.4km run for 16 years. Nor do I exercise nowdays. I used to care so much that I had to get gold award during my Secondary School days. I got 3 gold awards, and 1 bronze award for the Physical Fitness Test during sec sch.

And I got 2 silver awards for that Physical Fitness Test during JC. I used to force myself to run throughout the whole 2.4km run. Even if my dearest hubby were to ask me to go for a jog, I would say " No thanks"

In my opinion, nobody likes jogging. When you run, it makes you breathless, you feel tired, your mind start to have regrets on embarking the run, you feel pain around the knees, calfs etc.

But, somehow, the benefits of running just exceeds that of the drawbacks. Just tell yourself:

Running:

-Burn calories

-Trains your heart

-Prevents diseases

-Trains your stamina

-More self-confidence

-Achieve a Better Body

-Better Physical Appearance

I can go on and on.

Before I run, I will be very hesitant EVERY TIME. But when I think about the benefits, they are just too good to ignore. So I run according to my schedule and it works wonders.

we all tend to forget that more than anything else we are exercising for our mind and soul, because a healthy mind sets your mood for everything.best way to motivate oneself is to think of the feeling that one gets after the exercise rather than the fatigue before it. I look at the mirror everday after work ,telling myself to get rid of my pot belly even I was tired from working as I wanted to stay healthy and slim again , sometime I run with my friends who are regular jogger..getting motivation by them too.

I just get up and do it. I know that once I get started, I will finish strong. Most of us go through that phase of not wanting to get up, or putting it off until later, which becomes later later, then later 3x over. You'll never get ahead if you're left behind. Even when I feel like not doing it, I simply just do it and I feel better about myself and what I've done.

I put on my running shoes and my spiffiest running outfit (something I look good in running) and just prance (yes, prance!) around in my home. Music's playing in the background as I prance, jump up and down or just walk about in the living room etc. Once I'm on my feet and walking, it isn't much time before I decide to go for that run. Inertia, what inertia? :)

Sometimes when I'm wondering what I'm doing out there, I have to remind myself of why I run. I could probably give myself hundreds of reasons to keep running, my girlfriend, my team, but when it comes down to it, I remember, I don't run for anyone but me.

The most difficult part about this is to start. When you start, then there's no stopping. So I tell myself that all I have to do is just start. And I start. I don't worry about how much I have to do.

well simply don't..because tiredness and laziness will only cause your run to be either bad or jerky..

Running has to be done naturally..because you like it..because its good for you inside out..and at the same time when you run naturally, you won't feel any pain..no matter how many minor injuries like blisters or sores after your run..u know..:(

why force yourself to run?when there are many other exercise you can substitute like Skipping, which is friendly to the knees as compared to running..and also swimming, which works from head to toes including your shoulders..:(

know what i mean..whats most important is you feel happy about yourself and be cheerfull..a smile is as healthy as you might think :)

If I want to motivate myself I look at my bikini or a picture of me looking really good, this motivates me to workout and stay in shape. I just think of how much happier I am in life being in shape.
