Here's the thing.

You lose the most body heat throught two, well three places.

Those are your ears, feet, and the fingers.

If you wear a t-shirt, gloves, and a hat, you are keeping everything warm that is needed (I am assuming that you are going to run with socks).

The hat will keep your ears warm-which is probably the most critical part to keep warm.

Besides, running a 10K, you will most likely not even need to finish with the hat and gloves.

I ran a cross country 5K race in 45 degree weather, and I was fine with light gloves and a shirt.

But then again, 30 degrees is a little colder than 45.

Goodluck!

Yep, wear layers. Start off with an old long sleeve shirt, as you warm up take off the shirt and deposit it at an aid station, don’t anticipate getting the shirt back! If you find that you need the shirt just keep it on.

I tend to run in technical shirts and don’t have an overheating problem in the winter. In thirty degree weather I would wear a tee shirt, tech long sleeve shirt, hat, hat gloves and good tights.

I would rather be hot than cold!

Jen and Proud are correct. Wear layers and take them off as you get warm. I've run many a race in a hat, gloves, shorts and a long sleeve shirt. Key is a good warm up and stretch.

Like Jen said, it depends on the person. Try whatever works for you.

Me? I usually wear a pair of basketball shirts and one sleeveless shirt as a base layer, following a short sleeve shirt, following a long sleeve t-shirt. Also, I always wear the no-show socks when running. That's what I wore yesterday when I ran in 30s temp.

It's really up to the runner. Some runners need the whole track suit plus the gloves and hat to keep their body warmth in their bodies. Some runners get really warm while running so they don't need it. However, during the cold weather it is really hard to get warm after starting cold, so I would suggest at least a light jacket or sweatshirt. Personally, I warm up in my sweats even on warm days because it is easier to get things moving, get the blood flowing. Then I'm in my T-shirt and shorts for the actual workout. That's what I would recommend if you don't get cold easily, because if you do the coldness will impair your running.

Hope that helps!
