you would get a lot of scholarship offers for colleges, you wouldn't be the first and Alan Webb wasn't the first either he broke the American High School mile record set in the 1970s by Jim Ryun of 3:55. you would basically be guaranteed admission to colleges and running a sub 4:00 mile is probably one of the hardest athletic achievements to get especially for a high schooler, the average time for an elite high school miler is about 4:10-15

as the guy before me said, 3:43 is the outdoor record, the indoor record is 3:45 both by Hicham

the olympics run the 1500m not the 1600 and the U.S. trial qualifying standard for this is 3:39 for auto-qualify and 3:43 for provisional qualifying. add time for the extra 100m and you are looking at about 3:50-55 mile

The world record for the mile (mens) is 3:43:13, set in 1999.

That should be enough information for you to know that if you could break the 4 minute mile, you could get a full ride athletic scholarship (grades permitting, of course) to pretty much anywhere in the United States.

It is REALLY difficult for anyone to break a 4 minute mile. As of now, no woman has achieved it yet and the first man did it in 1954.

To put it at the high school level, only 4 high schoolers have ever done it (and they have only done it 7 total times). So, if you manage to do it in high school, you are automatically an elite track athlete. The other poster is wrong though...Alan Webb was not the first to do it, but the second. The first high schooler was Jim Ryun in 1964. His statistic is more impressive than Webb's because of how it stacks up with the other times in the day.

If you are close...good luck to you. Hope this was help.

If you broke 4 in the mile then you will get a full scholarship to college. You wouldn't be the first high school kid to break 4 but one of the few who could actually do it. Alen Web set the high school record in 2001 with a 3:53. the world record is 3:43. The qualifying times for the olympics is probably in the low 3:50s or upper 3:40s
