Track it great, it's fun, and it certainly helps you get in shape. But, make sure you know what you're in for when you sign up. If all you're thinking about is the cool spirit wear and not about the physical activity, then maybe you need to rethink it. It sounds like a good plan: get fit, get a cool jacket, have fun, make friends, etc., but there is work involved. (I know you already know this but im just warning you) Both sprints and distance are difficult. Sprints are hard because you have to run as hard as you can and work a bunch of muscles quickly, etc. Distance is hard because you have to endure long and difficult runs without frequent breaks or resting. Both are challenging and you want to think about if it's right for you.

Track really is a blast. It's a great environment to be in every day and has so many benefits. You just have to make sure the benefits outweigh the difficulty (which, they do mostly).

And hey, you can always try it out and then quit if it's not for you.

Ask yourself this: Do I do better running faster first or slower first? If you said faster first, then you should consider being a sprinter. If you said slower first, then distance is for you! I've done distance on my school track team for four years now and it does get rough, but with enough determination and will, you should be fine! Have fun this year in track dude!

Since you haven't done track before, I would say just ask one of the coaches. They will probably test you and then put you in what they think will be best. And don't worry about sounding weird or something, coaches live to help, that's literally their job! They'll understand that you're not sure and they will probably just be happy that they gained a team member-it's another possibility to win!

Who knows you could be the star of the team!
