Question:
WOMEN ONLY please; this is a serious question... How do you run as a 'larger' breasted woman?

Is there a really good running bra brand or experience you can share that will help me to not feel so 'floppy' or exposed? I wear a 36D-34DD depending on the time of month in a regular bra. Running, I wear 3-4 sports bra's because I hate the 'flop' or drawing any attention. As I'm increasing my mileage nothing seems to hold up well for the last couple of miles and I fear I'm suffocating them; let alone the fact that I'm enabling the 'gravity sag' prematurely. Help!

First, anyone that tells you not to run simply because you've not yet found a good bra is full of it. Ignore them.

There are a few kinds of bras worth a try, depending on the distance you run and what you're comfortable with. I agree w/the suggestions above- CW/X, etc. Also look into the Fiona or Maia bras from Moving Comfort (Title Nine renames other companies' bras- look for either the 3 Reasons or 2-in-1 Full Support respectively). The Champion Double Dry Marathon bras- *not* the seamless ones- are also good. They have a couple of new styles for max MCR too, both racerback. And currently on sale for $20 each.

Panache and Shock Absorber are also good brands, but harder to find to try on.

If you're truly movement-phobic, your only real option is the Enell bra (Last Resort on Title Nine). They're absolutely NOT sexy, but they work exceptionally well.

Personally, I expect to spend at least $40 for a good bra for my size for running. It's one of those items where the extra money is more than worth it, and good quality bras will last you a very long time. I've had the last several I've purchased last at least 2 years. I machine wash them in a sweater bag on the delicate cycle but never, ever put them in the dryer.

You're human, and female. You have breasts. They will move when you run. ;) It's ok. And while it can be unnerving worrying about what people think of you as you run by, just keep in mind why you run, and not worry about what anyone else might be thinking.

I have a hunch that those sports bras that you use are pretty check, right?

I'm a 40 E (Pregnancy and nursing is going to be the death to my back!), and I had to invest in a a $50 running bra. It sounds silly, but I spent just as much money on a bra for running than a bra for walking and normal use.

Why? Because if you're serious about running then you need to stop messing around with the cheapies. Wear 3-4 running bras screams to me that it's time to crawl to the local running store begging for help!

YOu may be running in the wrong sort of bra. Most running bras are "compression" style - which basically suck it all in, in one not-so-glamourous bulge. This, of course is fine for A or B cups, but not for a D cup.

Look for a sized sports bra, called "encapsulation" bras, which basically will treat each breast as a separate unit and support them equally. This is different than the S-M-L sizes you will see on compression bras. Many encapsulation bras are sized as double sized eg. 34-36 C /D. Champion, New Balance, CWX, and other companies make excellent versions of these bras. Some women will prefer these to fit a size smaller than their regular bra to give them a little more feeling of support.

Bras are a very personal thing. I know many D and DD who are very happy in a compression bra, and B cups who will prefer a full on encapsulation.

Key features to look for, if you can't find the "brands" are:

NO cotton - cotton in running clothes is bad, but in a bra is terrible. Cotton fibres stretch as they become wet, so you will get less support as you go along

Adjustable straps

Multiple adjustments on back

Cross straps (some prefer this) - less pressure on shoulders

Plan on spending some serious time to get fitted properly. Wear your running shoes, and jump up in down or, better yet, run with the bra in the store. Don't get stressed and take the time - it will be worth it SO much in the end!

I wear a 38 D, and have found that squashing is the only option. I buy my sports bras a few sizes too small. It takes some getting used to, but it is the only thing that works for me. I buy pretty cheap ones, and throw them out after a couple of months when they lose some elasticity. I only wear one at a time, more would be too hot.

Good luck taming the twins!

Oh, and whoever suggested yoga or pilates as a SUBSTITUTE for running? What were you thinking? Nothing can replace running.

Lucky butt! No really try wearing a bra then put a sports bra over it.It may feel tight and uncomfortable at first but itll feel better while you run for awhile.Or use tape.No dont use tape.Thats not a good idea. But try the wearing a bra thats got alot of support and a sports bra over it.

I've found that wearing a regular bra under a tight sports bra keeps everything in the correct place. Feels a little squished but helps when running/jogging.

I guess you could keep trying different sports bra's until you find a good one. However, I suggest a different type of exersize - Yoga, Pilates, try all sorts - anything repetitive will definately help lose weight/tone muscles! P.S. Sorry to see the massive inflow of messages you've received from men, hehe. Good luck :-)
